Seriously considering getting my DOKA converted to LPG.

As far as I can see there are three possible tank positions; under the rear seat, in the dead mans locker or on the load bed ?

Any pros/cons or considerations to be made?

Personally i think I would prefer a tank on the load bed under the rear window and leave the 'secure' storage areas free. Is that a possibility and if so how large a tank would be recommended for that position?

Pete Morrill (SyncroPete) has done just that and its a big tank, about as big as you can get I think, giving a colossal range when used with the petrol tank as well. His has a Golf GTi installed I believe, and purred beautifully ahead of us all through the Exmoor lanes...

If you give me the volumetric space that you have availalbe I'll let you know what tank will fit it, by the by the biggest tank is a 230ltr monster that is 1.6mtrs long by 450mm diameter just fits side to side on a panel van but weighs a whopping 240kgs when full.

May be worth checking what stipulations are in COP11 regarding the load-bed option, as some sort of protective covering may be required for the tank and fittings, which would otherwise be exposed to the elements and more importantly risk of damage. When I was talking to Pete about his install he mentioned building a metal box for his installation.

Steve is right to mention the weight, a big heavy thing at that height has got to affect the handling a bit. My tank (fitted across the van in front of the firewall) is 315x1409mm and 100l, weighing 37.3kg empty. 80l of LPG will weigh another ~40kg, making nearly 80kg total. This is low down of course and I can't say I've noticed any adverse effect on handling.
