Hi, recently took my 2L 1981 T25 in for a full service. Is the fuel filter something that should have been checked or replaced?
thanks

I had a "full" service once and it was missed, 10 minute job to do yourself.

Hi
There is nothing in the service guide to say it need to be replaced only checked.
If they found any problems with the fuel filter or lines they should have told you. Then prob charged u an arm and leg to fix.
As hacksaybob says its a 10 min job.
If I was you I would also replace the fuel line if you are in any way unsure of its age or condition.

bit gutted really...its been at the 'specialist vw garage' for 5 weeks as it kept breaking down, they didnt seem to know what was wrong with it, i got fed up and took it back.
booked it in for an mot somewhere else, and they spotted the fuel filter was blocked straight away! not a happy customer! theyd done the service for me just b4 it broke down so was wondering if that was something that should have been done...

Very easy to check the filter yourself, stick your head underneath, if the see-through filter has any c==p in, it is easy spotted and as easily changed = remove 2 hose clips, plug the pipe with 2 off 1/4" drills renew filter, arrow to front...jobs a goodun. If you wish you can drain a bit of fuel out to check its not got loads of cr==p in it. The fuel pump has a fine gauze type filter built in to the inlet pipe union, but this most unlikely to be give you any trouble. But I doubt if anyone has ever checked it, they probably don't even know it's there.
I always carry 2 spare filters, especially on me jollies.
