MORRISONS go Green with E85

"Morrisons, which is the UK's fourth largest supermarket chain (with 275 petrol forecourts across the UK) has opened its 15th BioEthanol E85 pump on the forecourt of its new Speke site in Liverpool, on Monday 2nd July. The fuel will be branded as Harvest BioEthanol E85, with the environmentally-friendly pumps featuring a butterfly logo and a blue filling hose
Harvest BioEthanol E85 will retail for 2 pence per litre less than petrol."
Now that is some incentive "NOT" for going green.

Ethanol is not a green fuel. Energy to produce is almost as much as it will produce.. Energy used to make plants for make ethanol, energy for production, etc mean more pollution then fossil fuel. Government taxes us, then subsidizes ethanol production to keep price down so it will sell... We end up paying much more then pump price in the end... That's rear end

Yep you are right but 3lts LPG @ 42per ltr = £1.26.
Now thats even greener

SO why is it being marketed as a green fuel?
If all the machinary used to plant and harvest biofuel and the energy used to process it, was from biofuel then it wouldnt be adding to the co2 output, only recycling... In reality i doubt thats happening...
Seems E85 is a lot cheaper over here though!!! IIRC a couple of weeks ago i saw it for 46 eurocent L

Not sure about ethanol not being a green fuel. Google the name Pimentel, that guy claims ethanol production has a negative net energy balance, many dispute his claims.
Not sure the UK gov's interested in subsidising an alternative fuel, & Brazil have been doing it happily for a long time now, can't see the powers that be in brazil subsidising anything that meant simply burning money..

There should be no need to deforest... there are several countriesthat were sugar cane producers but have been blitz'd byt he euro sugar beet subsidies... bioethanol would give them a nice cash crop and return ther economy...
Palm oil is prob the worst for deforestation at present...
