My van failed the MOT today on the indicators flashing more than a 120 times a minute, in other words they are going like mad,
All the bulbs are working and flashing, - any idea what could be causing it?

I have checked the wires for rust and can't spot anything up with the lights

Thanks

Dave

Locate the earthing block that is relevant to the indicators (there'll be a couple) and clean up reconnect each terminal in turn.

Make sure each indicator bulb is nice and clean (the metal bit) not green and furry, and the electrical connectors are ok.

Haynes manual should tell you where the earthing blocks are.

Wrong relay indicator installed ?

Do the indicators (eg. the number of them) work correctly apart from the flash rate? If that is the case then all you have to do is to get a standard 12V beetle indicator relay since they are indentical to the correct ones for the type 2 T3.

My campervan had the wrong indicator relay installed on it (the relay it has was for type 2 T3 emergency vehicles - eg. ambulances).

you can slow them down to get it thro by adding more load . add a extra bulb to each side - not a cure but a way out ?

This sound very much like it doesn't have the correct indicator relay (eg. it has got an indicator relay which is only suitable for emergency vehicles - eg. ambulance, police, etc).

I tried adding an extra load to my indicators in an effort to slow them down, but to be honest when I tried my Beetle's indicator relay (and double checked it with ETKA) it turned out that the Beetle's indicator relay is the correct one for a standard Type 2 T3.

The correct indicator relay its self fits all Beetles (Type 1) from August 1967, all Type 2 T2s and Type 2 T3s (up to 1991). I am however not entirely certain about the south african Type 2 T3s (up to 2003).
