Poptop seal

Hi all,

I have an '85 LeisureDrive conversion with a hinged poptop and tried to replace the seal at the weekend. As I was removing the old seal from the edge that is hinged it became obvious that putting a new one on would be difficult :( I was there for about 3 or 4 hours but did not manage to fit seal to the hinged edge. I tried propping the roof at different angles, sliding the seal on with washing-up liquid and engine grease but have come to the conclusion that I might have to take the roof off. Is there an easier way to fit the seal? If I need to take the roof off I'll need to remove the 3x rivets on each hinge, fit the seal and replace the rivets - any idea how to go about removing and replacing rivets?

Any advice appreciated - thanks.

Drill rivet heads off slowly, moving up drill sizes if nessecary.

Get a rivet gun and (correct size) rivets and have a practice on a sheet of metal with the same size holes.

Alternately replace with nuts and bolts (stainless) of the same size.

where bouts in London are you ?
fitted a new seal to my devon pop top a while ago . . . .and yes , the hinged side was a b*@ch of a job. But if your gutter's in good nick, (rare), then use a large flat ended screwdriver between pop top and gutter to prise it on. the new seal is very flexible, and as long as you round of any sharp edges off the driver, it wont be damaged. . . .Bottle of Fairey liquid wont go a miss either!!
