Just wondering what your views are on the Mud Terrain vs All Terrain debate?

Ive got a couple of missions planned that are going to involve alot of road miles and im in need of new tyres anyway.
So i reckon im going to go for gooodrich Mud ot AT's, they seem to be just about the most well recommended tyres for out and out quality.

So, i'd like to hear views on how you found both types on your mission to morocco if you would care to divulge?

I would prefer to go for the Muds as im gonna be using them back at home too, but im thinking that due to the large amounts of road miles it might be sensible to go for the AT's.

Ive got a set of Macho's that are on the van here and there, so im used to what they sound like, how do they compare to the Mud terrains?

I debated it for a while, but ended up going for the MT's, in my mind, the benefits outway the negatives. When it comes to anything remotely stick, they just provide that much more traction, also, with proper BFG's or simliar, they were pretty good on the road, and I hardly notice the Road noise.

...unlike Machos, which do have that familar block tread noise around 30 or 40, but to be honest, my diff easily drowns them at 50, especially on a neutral throttle

I had goodyear ATRs, no noise limited off road handling.
Now using BFG MTs slight noise but good off road and on road, turn the radio up and get used to it.
I got a cracking deal at £55 each (215 75 15)
ATS Euromaster had a deal at 25% off for 4 tyres £57.47, I took it round the corner and got Quikfit to match and better it at £55 each.

I've got 235/75 R15 BFG MT on mine and cruising at higher speeds (65mph /70mph) and the 1.9TD AAZ struggles to keep it at speed up a slight incline. You can also feel them sapping the power when you take your foot off the accelerator at any speed. Instead of gradually slowing down it seems bog down.

If your going for the MTs I'd go for smaller one. 215/75 rather than 235/75 unless you've got the TDI in the back.

Has anyone got the 215/75 R15 MT on with a 1.9TD? I'd like to know how it goes. I am on the verge of putting ATs on for the reduced rolling resistance but would prefer to keep MT's on.

Rob, the AAZ can be tweaked for more power, in many ways...

Many ways

Mine does not slow for any hills with big tyres.

Having spoken to CJ about tyre sizes, im gonna go for 215/75/15

Seems they are the most suitable size, what with clearances etc without making any modifications.

Anyway, its not how big they are baby, its what you do with em that counts.

On the other hand, it's too easy to overgear IMHO...

I don't think you want a 4.86 diff with those big tyres on the std 1.9TD
