This is about my brothers van, not mine...

he has a 1.9petrol dg. engien knackered we think after dumping all its oil on the mtorway after having abad leak for ages....
I have posted baout it before, but now its defo time to get it sorted out. esp after its cost him 300 to mot and tax it and its crrently undriveable! He's on a limited budget and has no mechanical skills...

He'll have to pay to get his replacement engine fitted so would you risk it and go with a second hand one, or borrow some money and get an elite reconditioned? we're based up north, so its pretty impossible to capitalise on the free fitting elite are offering as he has no holidays at work left...

Just lookign for advice really and peoples experiences of second hand engines etc etc....

Elite are open on a saturday.....drive down and train back.....then at least you know it was fitted properly and has 24 months g'tee. May need to sort something regarding the servicing though.

second hand engine....anything from 150 upwards, with little or no warranty. Ok Elite are a tad more expensive, but you are paying for peace of mind. Possibly consider borrowing enough to have it gassed as well, and enjoy it!!! (remember better apr as loan amount increases, so prob don't pay alot more for doubling the amount borrowed!) If gassed, you could afford to get it back to elite for the servicing!

I have read your previous posts, and really feel for your bro - respect to him for wanting to keep it on the road!

(oh - we have done both - second hand 2.1 for £350 with no history, but was running well according to the club member we purchased it through, and an elite 2.1 in another bus. Both doing very well.....but luck rather than judgement on the first engine....and we had to pay Pete to help us fit the thing.)

its booked in at gasure first to see if can be fixed. Might be possible. If not then he'll prob just borrow some dosh and get an elite one. Like you say it'd have a 2 year warranty then. its not so bad if you can find a decent second hand engine but as you say its always a gamble. steves just done the 500 mile service on our newly fitted elite one, (fitted by steve) and I must say I am really happy with it.
they do cost though these vans don't they at times. Hopefully his van will be fixable and he wont have to borrow any dosh to get it fixed. He's got his fingers crossed he'll have it for solfest!

Or maybe stay there overnight and get in first thing Saturday for a day fitting, I believe it can be done.
