That's the best Syncro off road footage I've seen and I am SO jealous

I just checked on Bernd's website and it doesn't mention anything about a special gearbox.

In the text with the vid, the 360 Nm is associated with the gearbox ...on the website it says: engine 360 Nm, gearbox Syncro

If that's the case, I'm surprised that the 280 bhp and 360 NM haven't reduced the gears to shafts yet

i wonder if he's using a shaft instead of a VC? the engine sounds like a veedub donk, but most engins sound like that with a blown exhaust.

Looks like Seikel springs and OME shocks, disk brakes all round, original (?) transmission.

For a long time I've dreamed of entering a Syncro in desert races - when I win the Premium Bonds
I'd love to know the longevity of this (original) gearbox with all that torque going through it! It'll be a good base line for those of us running (or wanting to run) more oomph than VW gave us!

When u are doing that sort of thing gearbox life isnt an thing considered.
U just rebuild it.
