2.1DJ gasket sealent / exhaust studs / stainless exhaust?

replacing the head coolent gasket on my 2.1DJ so have a few questions.

head off, no sheared studs thank f**k!

What sort of sealent should I use on the black rubber gasket and also what sort should be used on the head bolts?

searched back on here with regard exhaust studs and replacing them with stainless while the motor is out seems not to be recomended due to lower tensile strength what about titanium? any ideas on this?

has any one got a pic of the jp exhausts system their site is playing up.

anything else people would recomend doing while the motor is out?

Its only low milage 80,000km / 50,000 mile ish and the condition of the bores seem to comfirm this.

thanks in advance

the proper VW recommended water jacket gasket sealant is still available from main dealers, and cost me about 5 quid for a tube, wouldnt risk using anything less, personally. haynes manual tells you the relevant part number. some minor pitting on the head sealing face is ok, just give it a really good clean, and degrease with brake cleaner or similar.
i used blue hylomar sealant on the faces of all head nuts after e-mailing their tech dept to check suitability, [clean and de-grease parts well 1st] and on all engine nuts/washers and have had no oil leaks at all since rebuild, about 6 months ago, most car accessory places shud have it.
hope this helps :)

Hi Hacksawbob,

Thanks for the offer but I already bought a complete engine gasket set from GSF, was hopeing to get sealent with it (after reading you did on here some were I think) but none came with it.

I'll try and order some from my local dealership, Its always a struggle to deal with them though.

know what you mean, some main dealers are less than helpful unless its a current model, unless you get served by an old guy who actually remembers T25's! :)

Our local VW garage is excellent. I got a copy of ETKA off ebay so can look up the part numbers before phoning them, keeps everyone happy. Generally stuff is usually available in 2 or 3 days.

guy I spoke to today was quite helpfull actually, but in the past they have insisted on having chassis and engine numbers even when I had all the part numbers. One guy insisted that they made the Rallye Golf in rhd!?

anyway orderd following part no's today;

black sealent D 000 400 01

yellow sealent AKD 456 000 02

air filter connecting boot 025129626A

but he rang back saying he couldn't find the first part no so I double checked and I'm sure there right (I'm using ETOS, think ETKA may be better?)

also came across;

sealent AMV 188 100 02

mentioned in the bentley manual, whats that?

Manxman,
was the yellow head nut sealant expensive, cos my local vw dealers wanted 45quid for some :shock:
maybe he was trying to sell me a big tube when a smaller amount would have done, i ended up using the blue hylomar instead in the end.
