Just remove the fuel pipe that is going from the tank to the engine compartment. Its a pushed fit with a retaining clip thats on the tank.

I did the same going to VF last year, garage wanted £80 to drain it. Luckily I was able to drive on by switching to lpg and drain it myself when home. Easy as said above just drain from underneath and fill up with petrol. Best to change filter at same time.

Get yourself a new fuel filter, and when you disconnect the pipes to change it, all the diesel should just run out, so have a container/bowl handy. And take your petrol cap off just in case there's a bit of a vacuum and the fuel just trickles out. Fuel filters are quire cheap, and could probably do with changing anyway. It should be about 6 inches from the petrol tank, tucked up behind a chassis rail. Assuming it's not fuel injection that is. And maybe get some new jubilee clips too, as the old ones sometimes rust up.

ok it does sound simple. i put 20 quid in a virtually empty tank £3 quids worth maybe. anyway it had emediate effect. will do the filter thing today . .read some other web sites on this they said that diesel acts as a lubricant petrol as a cleaner and may be benificial in small quantitys? , it said to drain the carb and i will probably run some fuel though the pipes with the plugs out to make sure and probably raise the front end to drain. ta very much you lovely people

3 pounds in 20 probably wont do any harm, best to drain it though, what to do with it then though?

no 'tother way round. 20 squids worth of diesel in an virtually empty tank.
anyway have drained. Still think theres about 4 litres still in tank of contaminated fuel. musing as to wether i take the tank out to get the last or just fill it up to disipate the effect.

tank out can be a can of worms best put another 4L of petrol and drain again, you can get more out if you jack up the left front , then brim fill contamination down to 2% I am not sure but I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem. Anyone else know?

According to the test thing they did on Top Gear, where they mixed fuels to simulate a cockup like this, engines are remarkably tolerant of a bit of diesel in mostly petrol - so the dilution approach is what I'd go for.

fill the tank with petrol and it might go,(smokey) after a while!! slap a load of that octane booster stuff in it. you wont destroy anything. either way, its teaches you that= the BLACK or YELLOW pump is NOT unleaded. the GREEN one you might find useful though
or you could just drain it and use the diesel to kill the weeds in the garden

drained the tank both sides( the return pipe goes in the other side) with the van jacked up on a hill, put another 5 litres of petrol in drained that both sides as well. drove it down to the petrol station spluttering all the way, filled her up and she sputtered some more for 1/4 mile then the coughing stopped and she sang again. all fine and dandy now, ta everybody.
