Mine averages 65mph on a run. Can guzzle fuel though.

Have you got leadership qualities ?
Cause you'll be doing a lot of driving in a leading position ...leading the queue, that is.
Not a bad engine as such ... just inadequate for the T2 and even more so the T25.
50 hp is just not enough to sufficiently propel almost 2 tons.
Same goes for the 50 hp diesel as well.

If you are doing short trips, round town, small country lanes etc below 50mph you will be fine. If you like motorways and fast A and B roads you may well get annoyed with it. If you have had a more powerful camper you will be considering engine upgrades as the lorries all overtake you on that mild motorway incline. If you think of 50mph as being your top speed then on the occassions that you can get up to 65mph on the flat you will feel like you are going at warp speed. Overtaking becomes a real pleasure when you time your 1/4 mile run up behind a fractionally slower vehicle to perfection and swoop past. You will be gripping the steering wheel so hard as you wait for the momentum to do it's work that when you pull back into your lane you will feel like michael schumacher and be grinning from ear to ear. If the overtake doesnt work out and you draw level with a 44 tonne monster complete with grinning maniac driver you just have to back off and admit defeat. Journeys seem to be much more interesting with 50 hp. Very cheap to maintain though, but the limited cab heating would probably put me of more.

I remember when I had a 1.6 twin port bored and stroked to 2.0 (78x90.5 on stock rods, dual delortos, ported and racing valve job) with a stock doghouse cooling system in a hi top bay camper fully loaded for 85000 miles. Gave me better then 25mpg our gallons here (US gallon is 4/5 of ours) and would climb a 7% grade at 65mph in 3rd gear at 4000rpm with custom 4 speed box. This was in western USA.. long mountain grades and 30-40c desert heat. Engine was still running strong 15000 later when I saw it last. Stock compression and low rpm stick. Pulled like a mule!! Never ran above 4000rpm except when racing and was all in at 5000

Had rev limiter cus it was real easy to over-rev in low gear.
Just an old man's memories.

That was 25 years ago.

Got a 1600 a/c in our bay and it's my favourite (also got a 1.9DG and 1.6D in a T25), but doubt it would be any good in a T25 which is too heavy for such a low powered engine.
On the plus side our 1600 ac has been the most reliable engibe of all of them, is a doddle to work on , economical (27mpg @ 60 mph) and it gives good cab heat.
