Disaster strikes

Well Thought I'd best do the final torque up of the head bolts on my 1.6d engine after its head gasket change a few hundred miles back.

All was going well till the last bolt - far one in the bottom corner.

The torx drive key wouldnt go in. So I took it out of the socket and tried with my fingers. It slipped over, so I pushed it into the corner so I could slide it out against the well inside of the head.

Bugger me if there was'nt an oil way in that corner. It must have been a perfect fit as it slipped down the hole. I heard it hit the sump as that was draining to do an oil change whilst I was out there.

So I now have a Torx drive key in my sump - where its staying.

I tried to fish it out in vain with a magentic rod - but no hope.

Ran it up and nothing burst through the side of the sump - so oh well, need a new Torx drive key now.

I'll get it out when I do my 1.9d conversion one day.

Bad luck.Well at least you didnt do what i did to a 1.9d T4 a few years ago.Mistaked TDC on a cambelt change. And guess what done the valves and hydro tappets .Cost me a packet to get it sorted. Can you not just drop the sump.

Your biggest problem, might be that it is still in the oilway and is part blocking it, drop the sump, it's cheaper than a replcement engine
