1985 1.9 Petrol Westy joker.

I would like to swap my interior lights over from the main battery to the leisure battery.The fuse box is the old type. At the 'Bashtie' Disco Dave had a look but could not find the fuse for the lights.

On checking the main battery terminals, there are 2 wires (interior lights and radio) they disappear into the housing under the passengers seat.

I take it these must be connected to a fuse some where?

Yeah cheers for that. Thats what we thought, a 2 minute job. Checked every fuse we could find but alas no joy.

phil, i think you need to disconnect your leisure battery with the lights on, and see if it goes dark.......

Disconnected the leisure battery with the lights on but it didnt go dark but then its only 9:40 am

No there definitely connected to the main battery. I have 2 small wires coming off the positive connection. Disconnect these and the lights and radio goes off

These 2 wires disappear into their own holes through a rubber grommet in the bottom of the battery well. I take it then, going outside under neath the van.

I have checked under the van but it is where the fuel tanks are located and i cant see anything.

I have recently rewired my leisure battery with a seperate fuse box with spade fuses placed right by the side of the leisure battery.

All the wires coming from the other side of the van pass under the trim strip on the small step between the seats and through grommets in the side of the battery boxes. None of the wires go under the van.

I think on mine the interior lights are wired to the main battery via the cab courtesy light? Pull out the light fittings and see what wires are in there.

ok, where is your leisure battery?
its common to go under the floor outside and back in the battery b ox the other side, I'm not that familiar with westys, but at a guess they either go there or to a second fuse b ox somewhere...... if you don't get sorted ill look next time our paths cross.....

its common to go under the floor outside and back in the battery b ox the other side, I'm not that familiar with westys, but at a guess they either go there or to a second fuse b ox somewhere...... if you don't get sorted ill look next time our paths cross.....

I will have to give it another coat of looking at. It may be a case of not seeing the wood for the trees.

I've just wired up interior lights and other things to leisure battery this week!

After talking to Disco Dave, I was persuaded to get some low-voltage lights to inset into the ceiling.

Finding the existing wires took some jiggery-pokery due to an existing but broken split-charge relay and complications of making the lights 2 way for hook-up or on the road. I don't have a Westy, but I don't think the wires run outside of the van, mine were where trundletruc said; under the metal trim-stop between the two battery boxes. Good luck.

Apologies i didnt see your reply before i responded to Mocki's. I take it that you mean the step between the seats is the plastic rear heating trunking. (not sure of its correct name). I will have to investicate further.

Just done the same as Trundletruc and wondered why I didn't before. Binned the poxy 2-way cartridge fuseholder and replaced with a 6-way blade fuse box that cost about £4 from CAK Tanks. My fuses are:

(1) Stereo Head Unit (10A).
(2) Eberspaecher (15A).
(3) 'Kitchen': piezo-electric ign, battery meter, tap etc (15A).
(4) Interior lights: cab, side flouro's and extra reading lights above R & R bed (10A).
(5) 2 x accessory sockets (rear) (15A).
(6) Spare. TV/DVD one day...

Easy to connect to interior lights: just unplug white connector behind fuseway 3 in main fusebox and connect with spade connector to wire routed to aux fusebox. Best route is under cab carpet beside air duct and then up under front seat. There is even a hole ready. Doddle.

BTW, there IS a wire under the van on mine. It is red and white and goes to the split-charge relay under the driver's seat. It presumably originates in the engine compartment at the alternator, although I didn't bother following it. It is live all the time and a hefty gauge , anyway.
