I have one or two little bits of rust showing, I want to treat it while I try and sort out a body shop for respray, what is everyone else using to treat the tin worm

Vinegar,,,,,,,keeps it quiet for a couple of months (when used with a well soaked cloth )

Not found anything better, so far....

Have you had a look thru the 'paint your wagon with a roller' or wiki paint your van for 50 quid stuff? Covkid pimps some stuff called Vactan, reckoned to be really good, just ordered 500ml bottle off fleabay myself based on what he and others say about it, worth a try

Jenolite, provided you paint over it afterwards to keep it sealed, its quite cheap too, about £3 a bottle from places like Camberly Auto factors and most hightstreet motor factors. I've found that anything with hammerite in the name regarding rust treatment is cack. Pained the rusty bits on my mates Rangerover 3dr with KuRust and nothing happend. Jenolite took it back to reconisible steel.

Buy a dremmil and grind it back to clean metal. Nothing else works. PERIOD !

its true .. to cure rust you have cut it out(if its perforated) where is the rust? and is it holed?

After you have took it back to bare metal what would you use after that.

rust inhibiting primer such as zinc 182, but there are loads to choose from, some better than others. provided you did remove ALL of the surface rust.

Vactan - I've mentioned this many times and those on here that tried it will back me up. Its perfect for a wedge as you can treat rust withiout having to whack paint on straight away - if ever. It self-seals. Its liquid enough to work into seams too.

No VW owner should be without it and you get a lot for your money. The military use it.

So where can you buy Vactan? Who stocks it then?

I Think KURUST is the same. Get it from Halfords. It's a white liquid that you brush on and it chemically turns rust and bare metal jet black, and you can leave it at that, or then paint. On an old bay window years ago I welded a patch in the cab floor, I just treated it with KURUST (not sure of spelling) and it was still fine two years later when I got around to painting it.

kurust isnt the same, its completely different stuff.
i used kurust on my seams last year and its bubbling again already.
vactan dries into an almost rubber like coat and is for sale on ebay, when you treat any rust (that you cant remove beforehand) do it on a very hot and dry day(week) otherwise you maybe trapping damp in not good!!
im still waiting to do mine but the weather, well..... lets not talk about the weather eh?
