I'm sure theres more than one way to do it but my next job is curtains. Bearing in mind I have a 'Velle and no curtain fittings of any description, how would YOU go about it. Is there a curtain track I can buy that isn't massively expensive or should I consider stretched net curtain wires? How have others done this?

Sewing fabric I don't mind doing - just wanted some ideas on what works and what doesn't.

Ideas - help!

We got a track and hooks/glides from Just Kampers:

They were exactly the same as already in our Devon (except the bit which the previous owner had replaced with a thick white household curtain track - nice!). The JK tracks come in nice long lengths and are held in place with small pop rivets.

Is there no one that makes/sells this track in long lengths other than specialists?

nowt wrong with house stuff thats what i used to do mine and used metal house one for screen area kept price down to about £12 !!

Have you thought about `silverscreens', from JUST KAMPERS' £60 for the set, or buy car sunscreens from tesco or pound land and trim to size, its what I did, £20 all in, black as your hat during the day, It enabled me to have a 9 hour sleep during the 24 hr Le Mans race last week (ok, it may have been the beer/gin combination aswell!)

Well worth a look, or maybe have both, I know a few owners that do.

Velcro - the self adhesive sort - stick a small square into each corner of your home made curtains and attach to similar squares stuck onto windows/headlining,etc.
Took my missus an hour to sew the curtains and me about two hours to stick the velcro in the right places - bet you could do it quicker!
Tried the curtains this weekend -might need to use the extra strong velcro in a few places.

and made a full set for a T25, it was great fun making them (surprisingly easy sew three sides whilst the material is inside out turn the right way around put on the heading tape and hem the top edge) - we decided to put the lining on the inside of the van, so that passers by can benefit from the curtains

and of course now we have loads of scatter cushions aroung the house and new conservatory nets etc...


we did already have curtain track up, but it doesn't need to go all the way around non stop does it? also we have a couple of joins around the windscreen which are arkward.

I asked about the silver sunscreens at Tesco Extra, Horwich, Bolton last week & they don't stock them any more. You may possibly find them on Tesco online as they stock different stuff than the stores.

We had a similar issue with our recently purchased van, it came with the thermo mats from Just Kampers, these fit very well and do black out the majority of light, however they can take a bit of levering off the glass (rubber sucker fittings, several per mat). We hunted round local shops and on eBay, there are some good sites with good reviews. It's a matter of cost and personal taste / ability.
In the end we opted for some 'surf style' material from Hawaii, which at the present exchange rate was shipped to us for just under £50 (13yards)
My wife and her friend made all the curtains in an afternoon, and we are chuffed to bits!

There is a very good seller with 100% feedback who advertises from spring to autumn on fleabay. The seller is S.Brown Textiles (was G.Brown previously).

Last year I got a set of T25 curtains in mid-blue gingham for £51.00 + £9.99 p&p. The set consisted of 7 curtains for 'downstairs', 2 for 'upstairs' (suits high top/solid sided pop-top), 9 tie backs & 2 cushions with covers.

The curtains are lined & the header tape is stamped as being 'fire resistant' so no doubt the curtains are treated as well. If you make your own don't forget to spray them with a fire retardent!
