temp sensor for glow relay, location, hard start when WARM

1.6 n/a diesel
Were is it and is there more than one?

Its had a new cam belt fitted the fuel pump and engine timing has been done recently. And new glow plugs not so recently.

Im havin trouble starting the van when warm!

When cold i have to turn the ignition on and off half a dozen times before it will start with out alot of grey/white smoke.

When hot it starts straight away, no probs.

When warm, after being driven for a while & left for a while, I get no glow light on the dash but loads of trouble starting and clouds of grey/white smoke when it does.

So this leads me to belive the glow relay is on its way out or the temp sensor wiring and or the conections are duff, giving the relay a false/incorrect current/reading from the temp sensor/s and thus the relay not kicking in lighting the glow plugs.

Discuss.

Glow plug heat senser is located on the rear of the cylinder head. The glow plug light should not come on when the engine is hot.Your difficult start problem could be fuel filter it might need draining of water or changing. Valve tappet setting incorrect.

there is a relay in the back left of the engine bay in a black plastic case.T
here is also a strip fuse in there which may have blown.
when my strip fuse blew I had the same symptoms you describe.

I was reading about this the other day somewhere - here or brickyard. E D I T: Here: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21087

Im getting the same symptoms since i changed the engine - will check the fuse.

Apparently, its possible to disconnect the sensor so that the glow plugs come on even when the engine is hot. This should fix the issue if your glow plugs are good.

I will check the fuse first, and then maybe take off the sensor.

Let me know how you get on....

if if was low fuel pressure, ie bloked or contaminated fuel filter it wouldn't start period?

as stated b4 timing, and pump sorted v.quiet & smooth power highly reccmended money well spent!
