Cooling Fan

Hi,

Why do you think a switch was fitted on the dash board to turn the 2-speed cooling fan on/off manually?

I know for certain that the fan does not come on automatically when the coolant temperature gets high. (I used the switch mentioned above to get the temperature to go down).

Is the thermostat dead? Is the thermoswitch dead?

Don't understand why a switch was fitted? Surely it would have made more sense to check thermostat/thermoswitch!

What do you think?

Cheers

You are absolutely right there is a thermo switch on the rad.

the manual switch if it works is still useful though.
like in standing traffic and very hot days I would like my fan to kick in earlier sometimes

I have to agree, it is great to be able to switch the fan whenever I want. :)

But I just wonder why the fan doesn't come in automatically.
Do you think it's the thermo switch? Difficult job to replace? :?:
The fuses look ok.

It may well be still there and more than likely broken as it has been bypassed. The Haynes has a wiring diagram....

they are available from VW or GSF not a difficult job, but you will need some fresh anti freeze (G12+) for the coolant loss
