as above really ive got some chrome arches to put on now ive sorted the paint just wondering what other people have used to attach them to body work????

With the correct preparation, any water repellent adhesive that gap fills should work - no more nails needs porous surfaces as far as I recall so I would not use it on metal or paint. I suggest you look for a vehicle body filler type of adhesive based on epoxy since this works well on metal. The main problem then will be preparing the chrome inside surface to bond with it - might need a surface prep solution or some careful rubbing to roughen the surface - as long as it is well sealed, no rust will occur - rust needs water and oxygen (air).

ahhhh bugger i was hoping it was gonna be a 5 min blue tac job humf lol off to halford with me tomorrow then!!!!!!!! thanks for the advice

No more nails works fine on clean oil and rust free metal, my beetle is glued together with it

Failing that polyurethane glue

If you dont trust glue then pop rivet it as this will make the job look good.

Silicone only sticks to one thing, more silicone!

Silicone is the work of the devil and should under no circumstances be used on vehicles of any kind.

And that includes campers !

Sikaflex 221 if it needs to stick and seal
Dekalin if needs to seal only and possibly come off again at some stage.
(ie. fitting windows, hatches, etc)

thats the way

you cant stick them on as they will fall off

i riveted mine on, it took 2 mins each and is much quicker than glue. plus you can rivet anything else that you like. youd be suprised

hes right.the acetic acid in silicone sealant will eat into the metal...

sikaflex or tigerseal, like they use in body shops to fix body kits to rally cars etc.its £8 a tube but its what high roofs are glued onto campers with.

as stated tigerseal , its fantastic , and wont rust the bodywork rivets if allumin will cause dissimilar metal corrosion if not treated with waxoyl

good question smithy took me ages to get some not readily avialable mostly on german ebay luckily for me a member on here brought some but changed there mind so let me have them, they are made of plastic (dont ask me what kind) and covered in protective tape to stop scratching, i think im gonna go down the glue path
