Refinishing Part 2

I have 2 sets of badly pitted hub caps. One set was virtually new and went downhill rapidly without being exposed to much bad weather.
I am presuming that they are cheapo copies. Is it worth getting a genuine VW set?
Alternatively is there a way of refurbishing the ones I've got that won't break the bank and that will stand a bit of use?
Thanks,
Paul.

Paint them? You could colour code then to your van.. either than or, I had pants non-gen ones on mine and after about a week they were covered in rust, so I polised then up (its amazing how much rust you can get off chrome with AutoSol).. Only had a few little pits in them so I laqured them, the rust crept back but very slowly, gave me enought ime to save up for a set of baby moons from JK. Lets see how long THEY last!

I wouldn't advise wire wool, just use the AutoSol as directed, or on a polishing mop.. Wire wool's a bit abrasive for chrome IMO..
