any ideas on how to stop them going right down?
whatever clicks in to the notches on the two posts must have given up working [ they're carat captain seats] apart from sliding some tube spacers over them at the right height, to stop them slipping down, is there a way of fixing 'em?

It sounds like you don't have the wire 'R' clips which go through the plastic mouldings in the top of the seat. The straight side engages with the saw teeth on the back of the headrest legs just sufficient to stop them moving of their own accord.

When we bought the van there were some R clips in the cupboard...never found out why until now
