Hi, I have just had my engine replaced by the guys at VW Elite. Cracking job and have just got back from cornwall and it has'nt missed a beat. They put a new clutch in but I have this problem in that the forward gears are fine but when pulling away in reverse it judders like a bugger making a racket, if you release the clutch fully then she drives in reverse as she should. The clutch is new and there's no judder at all in the forward gears. When I took delivery of the van from elite I reversed it off the lowloader and it did this, the guy said drive it around abit and it will disapear, but it has'nt. Can anyone help?

i get this when pulling away in first gear its a right bugger.
i have fitted 3 engines
the first did it in first gear
the second engine only did it in reverse gear
and the third engine does it in first gear like the first engine.
its weird
i have started to think maybe the clutch fluid may need replacing?
dunno the actual clutch doesnt slip or anything and seems ok.

It wont be the clutch fluid.. engine/gearbox mounts and maybe some contamination on the flywheel, could also be the flywheel has a high spot..
but mounts is where I would start.. I tightened the "tab" on the engine mounts (wbx) so that it limited the amount of movement.. improved things a lot..
