hey folks,

my 1984 transporter 1900 watercooled starts and runs great,been away last week to dollar then volksfling.

prob is i have to wait for about an hour after i switch it off before it goes again.it does start but cuts out shortly after, then the waiting begins.

i have replaced the fuel line and inline filter,checked the fuel cut off solinoid and the carb has been tuned and it really does run well otherwise,it seems like the float has risen and isn't letting the fuel through but if a wait an hour it drains and off i go again.

its a solex 34 pict 5 carb,these have floats eh or am i barking up the wrong tree??

Hi, try driving/running it without the petrol cap on. This will release the vacuum. This happened on a Nissan van I used to have. If it runs OK drill a small hole in the cap. Anythings worth a try. Good luck

yeah tried that too but no joy,same old same old.got a peirburg carb and manifold so might just fit that and adapt the throttle.

Could be the "cutoff" valve on the carb sticking.. or even fuel vaporisation in the float bowl.. how long do you wind it over for when trying to restart and do you use any throttle?

cut off valve as in solinoid?i checked the solinoid by turning the key and removing the connector. when i touch the solinoid with the connector it clicks,sounds like its working.

the van starts first time but only seems to run for a few hundred yards before spluttering and cutting out.

after i leave it for about an hour a can jump back in turn it over n it starts and away i go again.??????frustrating.

was that the one near the tank.as these sometimes get overlooked.if one has been fitted near the carb.they get clogged with sh*te and cause fuelling problems....

yeah i replaced the fuel filter next to the tank,that is the only one.there is a non return valve near the carb.confused why it starts and runs fine,i just picked it up and it started first time and drove home no bother but if i were to go out now it would start then cut out after a short while then i would have to wait an hour before its ready to go again,cannae have that when i stop for fuel or to nip into the shop.
