Was hosing off under the wheel arches the other day & with the muck half the coating came off with it.

Anyone re-applied it or had it done for them?

Any tips?

It's easy and best to buy the spray on stuff in the big cannistor. Simply follow these steps:-

1) Jack up van on axel stands so all 4 wheels off the ground
2) remove wheels
3) COver ground and surrounding area with plastic sheeting
4) Remove as much of the old flaking underseal as you can
5) Heat waxoil so it's warm and flows better
6) Get underneath and spray it on everything in sight, get right into those tight spots.
7) Open a beer, but don't look in a mirror!

I had the same problem with the wheel arches and used the brush on Hammerite Underbody Seal. It contains waxoyl and goes on like cream cheese forms a thick tough coating ideal for the wheel arches.

Its inside all the box sections of the chassis, sills and panels that want a good old cleaning out, drying out and then waxoiling internally IMHO.. the underneath seems to drip dry off just fine and any (serious) problems seem to be elsewhere. The rear chassis (engine bearers), rear cross-member, rear sill/jacking point and above front jacking point under the B pillar (where 6 different sections meet I'm told) is where the real harm happens - Oh! and of course that (kicthen) panel oppo sliding door.

The waxoyl pump guns are fairly useless, ideally you'd have the proper compressor and gun etc esp for getting inside sections, some of the hidy holes for rust are behind fridge, behind petrol breather tanks, below rear airvents in the engine bay, and in behind the panels at the seam joins above wheel arches, if it looks bad on the outside the inside is quite often worse.

bob is right. cheap ebay sprayguns (£8) with 1.7mm nozzles are great for this, heat up the waxoyl and add a bit of white spirit to thin it and its gets in anywhere..

What about spraying everything with diesel??

well you could do ...... but i wouldnt
our college lecturer (vehicle restoration) uses waste engine oil to spray the underside of the vehicles he restores at his bodyshop,(after undersealing). every few months.
