It may mean a componet has failed/worn out/blocked, so raher than adjusting something blindly, you should do a full check to make sure all is well and set up...

yes please i'll have a piece of cheddar.
oh sorry i thought it was one of those threads where you completely change the subject each time you post
as you look in from the back of the bus,, the left hand carb has a large (12mm across) brass adjuster sunk into the top. this controls idle speed for both carbs. however i would check all vacuum pipes, plugleads etc before adjusting anything in case something less than perfect is causing your problem.
i run the idle fairly high on my Aircooled as i believe it helps with airflow when stuck in traffic.
one thing to remember is that if you adjust something and it has no effect, always put it back where it was.
good luck.

As a general rule you should check the timing, the plugs, points, condenser, airfilter etc before fiddling with the carbs because mostly it's not the carbs, and if you mess with that when other items are not set up right it just gets worse.
After doing that, and before you adjust the carb check for manifold air leaks at the carb mounting and the hoses by spraying brake cleaner over them, if the idle increases you have an air leak making your mixture weak at idle.
When you do finally adjust the carb make a note of where you are adjusting from so you an go back to that point if need be.

tweaking carbs when sober usually gives better results than when half-cut...
