snapped belt

What kind of damage will it have done if it snapped on tick over, Sorry its a diesel 1.9 pug shame to scrap as its a good car could it just be a new belt if so anyone know if its a big job.

You may have been lucky but only by re-fitting the belt and doing a compression test will you know for sure.

If poor compression then you proberly have atleast on bent valve.

you may have a fail safe engine, it may have done nothing more than snap the belt, if its not fail safe it could be fecked.. valves, cam ???

The Peugeot/Citroen engine sin`t a fail-safe engine. If it was at tickover you may be lucky and it`s just stopped dead. The valves operate straight up and down, so the pistons knock back any open valves directly upwards, so may not have bent them, PROBLEM is that the valve coming straight back up can snap the camshaft and / or broken the valve bearing caps. Whip off the cam cover lid and have a quick look for any obvious damage first. Then it`s head off and check for valve damage/seats leaking
