hi guys.just needing some advice on my B-reg t25. Its a 2litre petrol, and im sorry to say its watercooled!anyway, she seems to run really hot,the temp gauge is 3/4ers over toward the hot side, but she never actually overheats and when shes idling in traffic she actually goes down to the middle!!she runs great though, only abit temperamental when trying to start hot! she also has 2water tank bits, the normal and an overflow, the overflow is supposed to be filled to max but whenever i do that the water goes!! but if i leave the overflow empty she doesnt use water from the normal bit! im confused!any advice would be cool! thanks

Read through the WIKI

1st off, it isnt a 2L... the waterboxer (flat 4 watercooled) is available as a 1.9L (1915cc) and a 2.1L (2110cc) the aircooleds are 2L and very slow 1.6L

Let us know what engine code you have and what year.

Yes there are 2 tanks int he engine bay, but only the one with the pressure cap on should be full, the other topup/expansion tank should be filled only to ther MAX mark (about hight of the lower edge of the filler hole.)
if you have engine temps of 3.4 while driving then thats not good.. only after sitting in traffic on a hot day should the gauge get that far... if its really happening whilst driving, it could mean the system is air locked (special bleeding procedure to remove air in the system, expalianed in the WIKI) or your radiator is blocked, or poss the thermostat is not opening fully...

ok cool.cheers for the reply. its a 1.9 petrol sorry! its strange because she is hot when i drive along(motorway or town are the same)but then when i sit in traffic or stand still she goes down to mid way!!
iv gone through the posts on here and most say the opposite,ie they overheat when standing still!!

Radiator fan usually kicks in on slow just as the needle passes to the right of the led. Never heard mine on the fast setting. The usual issue is to make sure it's properly bled but saying that mine's run about with air bubbles in lots before and it's been just dandy. I would check the fan thermoswitch and see if you can get it to kick in, though shouldn't be needed on motorway.

That sound like a partly blocked radiator or thermostat not opening fully.

Freind of mine had a similar problem and it turned out to be the wrong sort of thermostat had been fitted. Apparently there are quite a few different types. Had any work done recently?

hey,

someone else with a similar problem.

i also have a 1.9 petrol watercooled (1984) got it running sweet but when i stop and start it shortly after it only drives for about 200 yards before dying on me,i have to wait about an hour for it to cool down before it will start again,i have bled the pipes and the water pump seems to be pumping the water right round as all the pipe are hot.confused also.

want to goto bigger at the weekend but cannae stop on the way down for petrol or a pee as i will have to sit for an hour til it cools.

will keep an eye o yer post n hopefully get some answers.
