hey mark.
i'd say if you watch the temp guage m8,,, without exception if theres a thermostat fitted the temp will slowly rise,, then fall back before rising again to full temp.
the guage in the cab will deffo fall back slightly when the thermostat cracks open.
btw the engine sounded very well as you pulled away from the black lion. 8)

Mark........

The gauge on our van started to read lower and lower, so after a good check, I replaced both senders in the thermostat housing, seemed to work...........

Good luck.

If the heater is blowing nix=ce and hot I would suspect the sender or gauge is at fault.. a cool engine wont deliver ice hot air at the heater with the fan on full..

know I'm stupid but . . is it not possible to tell from the hoses connected to stat housing?

Thought one stays cool(er) until stat opens, then gets errrrr warm?

or am I in a state of 2.1 confusion? Maybe don't answer that . .

Well if one hose get warmer after its been runing a while then its got a stat... if no stat was in there it would never heat up....
You could always pop the hose off and stick a finger in to feel...

funny your should say that Si , i've kept my fingers to me sen , but just had a quick look feel at the pipes and yes one of the nice fat ones is getting warm as the engine warms up , like you've all said could just be a sender ..
