Hi
Can be done if you feel confident.
I recently had one fitted in to my Scirocco, was going to do it myself, but bottled it.
I did watch though, and would probably do it myself in the future.
You can cut the hole with a Jigsaw, (correct blade obviously) but you gave to drop the head lining first. The proper tool is an electric steel shear, (from many hire shops) but you need to make a big hole (about the size of an egg) to get the foot/blade bit in. the guys who did mine started off with a sharpened up brick bolster! ( I nearly sh+t myself when they started whacking a hole in my virgin roof!) but it really did work well.
I need a new sunroof in my T25 so am on the lookout for a larger on than is now fitted, and I shall fit it myself, the roof lining is pants anyway!
I've heard of people practising on a roof from a scrapyard, not a bad idea if you can.
Good luck.
