Hi all

Having now done a few miles in the bus, I have just worked out the fuel economy to date, works out at about 20-21 mpg. (some town, some motorway, some long A roads, 400 miles in all)

I'm not sure what to expect, it's a 1.9 petrol, low top not horrendously over loaded (yet)

What do you guys get from similar? and can anything be done to improve it (it is well serviced etc.)

Seems about average now to me as wife has been in hospital for some time, so no long trips and we live in a very hilly area. As ermie says, gassing is the best option.

They ain't that great on the petrol, get worse when everything gets worn and old. as said before getting it converted to run on lpg best option if-
you plan to keep it for good while
use your bus frequently
and have at least £800 to spare
or
try and find a weber carb kit to replace current carb
use it less

i had the same decision a while back when i realised i was using the t25 daily and it was costing a shed load of dosh on fuel. if your van is just used for camping trips buy a cheap car for everthing else, if used daily gas the swine

First and most important point of call is to check the condition of the fuel hoses for condition and leaks. If you don't this can literally cause a fire without you knowing about it.

This is particularly important by the fuel pump (at the bottom of the crankcase).

This is the most common problem with "poor fuel economy". My 2.0 litre Aircooled hightop does about 25 mpg on the m25 before I replaced the fuel hoses and about 34 mpg on a very long run (eg. 300 miles).

I have yet to work out it's fuel economy after I replaced it's fuel hoses.

I did say that it was on a very long run (and almost traffic free).

Realisticly on an average run it would probably do about 25 mpg or maybe a bit more than that. Hopefully I will find out tomorrow night after 100 miles and calculate it from there.

I get around 22 - 24 mpg out of my 1.9 WBX. I do however run a panel van with a home brew interior so not the heaviest of the T3's. Lowering it this weekend and a hopefull side effect might be 1 or 2 extra mpg's on the long haul motorway journies.

I have never seen more than 26mpg out of either of my 2 T25's
now matter how "well" driven.. in fact the syncro doka is getting as good as the velle and its sitting at 65-70mph for hours... 24mpg seems to be as good as it gets on that...
The syncro is a 1.9 wbx too.. the velle was a 1.9 and is now 2.1'd (but still is a "DG" (ie running carb etc.. ) and that normally returns 23-25 on a run..
Oh and I have done a good few KM in both.. prob 200k km in the velle over 7 years and 28k km this year in the syncro..
