Bad earth in the RH of the two plugs, and/or bad earth further down/up the line.
Its a fairly simple system, disconnect, clean up and reconnect. Keep going until you eliminate the fault.
Good luck!

relay could still be at fault, separate sections for hazzards.........
also check multiplug behind fuse box, three pin flat plug, gr/b gr.b/g & gr/w
affects indecators, and side lights ?

had exactly the same problem when i fitted a new dash unit, chech the multiplug to the dash unit and the wiring to the hazard light switch.

Sounds like a contact problem somewhere in the system, try waggling the indicator switch when in each position, if they start working then perhaps a new indicator stalk may be needed.....
This once all the other ideas have been tried first,,,,,,

now this is finished can I hijack for a moment. I assume the relay is supposed to be in the relay strip just above the fuses? (1984 watercooled.) I just have a couple of wires going off rather than a relay.

the relay is on the left hand side above the fuses
its a no 21 relay on mine

thanks, I'll see if the wires end in something like a relay.
