Do we need a Multivan?

We want:

4 berth - full width R&R with double bed in roof for kids
Pop-top (to fit in car port)
Rear inertia belts (for kids seats)
Everyday use (shopping, school) + holidays + outdoor sports & leisure

We don't need:
fitted cupboards (always chuck stuff in boxes / bags when we go away)
fitted cooker (always cook outside or eat out!)
fitted fridge (will use a chest fridge / cool box)

I think a multivan sounds like a good option for us, esp one with PAS, electric windows, diesel motor.

I know about camper variants but hardly know anything about multivans.
What models are available? Are there many with lifting roofs? What should I expect to pay for a good example?

You do realise Multivans are only left hand drive?---they were available with lifting roof as a factory fitted option but not many around-most just tintop --look on German ebay & http://www.mobile.de/ scroll to VW then T3 Multivan you will be lucky to get one in the uk--& if you did the price would be stupid--in Germany £2-3k

Cheers

LHD isn't an issue for us.

What are the model designations? I've seen reference to Blue & White Star, but don't know differences between these and other 'multivans'

Blue & White stars are just hi spec multivans--alloy wheels & better trim etc--the layout is the same with the folding rear seat/bed whatever the model---
