After some technical help for my Dad in Spain.
He has a type 4 van with Electrolux 3 in 1 fridge (model RM4213S) and it will not cool down on gas. Works ok on mains and battery and fires up on gas but wont col down.
Any ideas?
Or anyone know where to try and get it fixed near Girona (hour north of Barcelona). Alternatively will be back for a week in July and visiting South Wales and Glasgow.

These fridges are happier when used on level ground with gas.

has it just started doing this?

simple solution attempt:
get the fridge going on gas, take the yoke for a drive on a really bumpy road (that shakes the air bubbles out of the coolant) and possibly marvel at the resulting cold

almost simple solution attempt:
Get at the back of the fridge (possibly by removing the lower vent), clean gas burner, see flame grow, straighten out and burn properly again, possibly marvel ...etc, etc

not so easy solution:
google electrolux service department for spain and organise a coolant refill

My dad says it is working fine on mains and battery - so does this mean it is NOT a coolant problem?
He also says gas lights but i dont know if it fully fires up.

yes

our fridge is the same. works fine on mains and battery, and the gas fires up it just doesnt cool down

Hey,

With the electric, i believe its a heating element in a heat exchanger.

The gas burns then passes inside the heat exchanger.

My thinking is that if the heat exchanger is coated with muck or ash then it wont transfer the heat as well, stopping the gas from forming. So the end result is a lite but poor fridge on gas. But fine on elecy

Take the fridge out and blow compressed air down the exhaust should move the muck of the inside of the heat exchange. Y you are there clean the combustion area out and check the jet for corrosion.
