My Speedo and Mileometer have both stopped working

I have removed the wheel and dust cap and also removed the cable from the clocks, When you twist the cable at the wheels the cable at the clocks still turns too, Why would the speedo/mileometer not be working

Any ideas anyone ..............................

Sorry, dont know, but just p*ssed myself at that 'bits left over' line!

if the cable spins,
either

I) tha cable end is worn
II) the speedos fecked


make sure you get the same speedo, most lhd say 805 in middle

unless its just the miles that dont spin ?

was the circlip on at the bottom? they rot and fall off then the hub cap thing spins in the circlip groove on the cable? fit it back to the speedo then push the cable inner all the way in from the hub end and get someone to watch the speedo while you spin it quickly with thumb and forefinger to see if the speedo needle moves. if it does it just needs bodging at the bottom somehow.(or maybe a new dustcap thing with a new square cutout in it)
mine did this very thing and is now bodged with wire
