Are they any good seen them on JK and camping shops and the like, meant for bringing power to you tent, but wondered if it'd be ok to use in my van, as I don't have a hook up and they're cheaper than having on put in?

Any thoughts/experiences?

I would have thought that if you can get it into your bus in such a way that water doesn't come in with it you should be fine.

You know the sort of thing, bring the cable in lower than where the power sockets will be so water can't run along the cable and make things go fizz pop bang!

Smashing, they are meant for tents so I assume they'll be fine in my van, like you say as long as I can make sure no water gets in

Or pop into a City Electrical Factors or similar trade counter ... don't wear yer D&G clobber ... and buy an IP65 trailing switched socket with rcd, 3 pin blue plug and 20 metres of 1.5mm arctic blue cable. The counter boy ... who only failed the audition for Mickey D's 'cos he couldn't find his @rse with a map ... can easily be blagged into giving you good trade discount. Something along the lines of "I say my good man I'm from ***** Landscaping etc" should suffice. Just remember you DEFINATELY need the receipt.

I looked at these but then decided to put in a fixed system - sockets, fusebox, rcd etc and got cable plugs etc - all came to £50!! Plug is under rear plate so no faffing with open windows etc.

I had the 3 x 13 amp socket version from Powerparts £95, but found it bulky, both to store and use, so decided to put the mains circuit in the van at half the cost. Flogged it on ebay.

go on ebay bloke in liverpool was elling gargae units for 19.99 clearence and fitted one with external socket and power sockets for £35 all in !! works a treat and has a RCD built in and two circuits one for mains one lighting or zig !!

did the boring bank holiday trip to B & Q today, had a "garden" twin socket out door set for £9.95, might be worth a look. Got one to put power in the awning, but could be used for mains hook up with an adaptor plug.
