Hi

I am thinking about getting a recon engine for my Komet. Elsewhere in the forums I have seen that Elite VW in Essex have been recommended. Has anyone dealt with them? In a respose to an email, they tell me that running on LPG does not effect their warrenty which is good news

Cheers

Cheap prices, possibly the best in the country with a guarantee I know at least one person who has had to use it due a bad batch of head gasket seals (not their fault). Personally, I was after some old engine bits off them for which they dicked me around considerably with BS and excuses.

they fitted a 2.1 into our panel, exchanging a 1.9. Have now done over a year, no probs. Has had three of the compulsory 4 services in two years to keep the warrenty. they fitted the carb from the 1.9 as it ie easier for the gas, which pete fitted.

still chuffed

Did you drive in with a 1.9 and come out with a 2.1 then? if so did they charge any more?

Shepster,

well, they picked it up as we were reluctant to drive it to them.....think something was wrong with the head gasket (?) as it was blowing bubbles into the expansion tank!

But although they came prepared to tow it if necessary, they apparently drove it ok to Essex!!!

As for did it cost any more, I don't think so. We e-mailed them for a quote, stating that we did not need the injectors, and that it would need an MOT also. They gave us a price for the engine exchange and the collection, but the MOT would be done at cost. As it was they estimated the cost of the MOT (once they had the van) on top of the exchange and the price didn't change from that.

we were pleased with both the price and the service.

I would have thought they would charge a little more for a not "like for like" exchange, but the reports seem to suggest they are willing to talk about what you want, so maybe there wasnt much in it..

Give em a ring is best and find out what they can offer.. but have an idea about what you want before you do ring..

there was a recent thread re elite only about a month ago I think. They replaced our 1.9 w/c dg very economically, very helpful still going fine after a year. Make sure you ask them if they replace the gearbox input spigot bearing before re-assembling, I would happily recommend

cheers

engines start from £680 for water boxers, right stop and think about it,the guy who fits it is gonna be paid £50 -£100,so thats even less,so for the money thats left do you think you get new heads, barrels pistons, push rod tubes, crank grind, all new bearings, oil pump, new filters, oil, antifreeze and still make a profit,i think not,cj.

So what EXACTLY are you saying, that the engines are not thoroughly re-conned?

I was all for buying a brand new VAG engine untill i spoke to Simon over the weekend and he told me of the warranty hassle's he's had with one so when i heard about Elite and the good reports they had i thought i had found the sollution, but now..........

One trader shouldn't really be speculating about another traders business, even with the best of intentions.

The thread is asking for genuine views and experience about people who have used Elite VW, not for questions regarding thier business model and speculation about what might or might not get done.

I don't want to get sniffy about it but you have to be a bit careful about what you type. :D

I presume that is aimed at Syncrospares and not myself, as i'm simply after opinions on the quality of service offered by Elite with a view to spending some hard earned cash.

I have spoken to Elite myself and they have given me the info i was after so it's just a case of making up my mind on which way to go.

It was aimed at SYNCHROSPARES but I was trying to be nice about it.

I have no axe to grind and don't know either business, but I'm sure SYNCHROSPARES wouldn't appreciate speculation about his own business when he might not be able to reply.

I'll shut up now as I was just trying to be fair.

Hope all goes well with your bus!
