Type 4 2.0L replacing Type 4 1.6L ??

Just bought my T25 1600 and realised that its struggling a bit with kids and junk in the back. If i was to upgrade to a 2 litre, what other mods would have to be done and would the engine slot straight in?

I have been offered a 2.0L type 4 with twin webbers, manifold etc.
Is this a straightforward swap or do i have to replace the clutch for a hydraulic one?
Any advice appreciated.

Straight swop. Clutch may be a bit heavy for the cable clutch.

The 1.6 isnt a "type4" engine.. its a type 1 base..
So you will need all the 2L tinware and carbs and exhaust.. should be a bolt in job.. but you may find the gearbox a bit low for your newfound power.. so should search out a 2L box to go with it..

It also depends on your budget. Everything on the T4 engine is expensive so you'd need to find a really good one if you don't want to be spending out for ever.
The CT can be fitted with beetle barrels and pistons and heads which would cost less than one new head for a 2 litre.
The CT can also be upped to 1776 and twin carbs added. But it all depends on the state of the bits on the CT, like heat exchangers and exhaust which are expensive if bought new.
I'm currently building a bug CT that will have about 110BHP

All i want to do is increase the power so its easier getting up the hills on the way to Wittering, is all the above the easiest way?
Dont really want to sell the camper as we have become emotionally attached to it

Consider the long term cost.. might be cheaper to get more power out of the CT in the short term, but its isnt a brilliant engine to start with... a good 2L looked after and set up properly will outlast it... Parts for CT's are nearly non existant now, so in a few years time!!!!

The easiest way is to find a good T4 engine.
Once you increase the capacity and reduce the compression on the CT, you make it long legged and as long lasting as the CU. Twin carbs gives it more power than a CU.
By the way folks. A CU engine is also called a 'Jimmy engine'.!
CU Jimmy!
The CT uses exactly the same fan as the CU but benefits from a bit of extra oil cooling if you tune it.
I recently bought 3 CUs for spares, but only got one head from the whole lot that was useable. Cases are bomb proof as are cranks. Heads are a pain in the butt for losing seats and guides. Barrels and pistons are great, but often head damage kills perfectly good barrels and pistons.
A CT short engine, built to 1776, with T1 cam and solid lifters is £1200
Carb kit depends on what you buy, but it may be possible to fit a pair of 2 litre solexes onto Type 3 manifolds and do it all second hand. Or even fit a type 3 carb set up and use the csp porsche fan linkage at the back. I have a pair of 40s on an engine with the CSP linkage and it works well.
A remote filter and cooler kit (type4 does the job) is around £80. I'm currently working on fitting the complete 2.1 DJ exhaust system on a CT but that leaves you without heaters.
At least you know what is available.
The other option with some messing about is the 1800 'industrial' engine that heritage are selling. Lovely motor but heat exchangers would require mods and you'd need a complete set of CU tins. Keep the 36mm carbs and buy a voltage converter from 12 up to 24 volt to power the chokes etc. (19.50 from pirideofthefleet.co.uk)

Cam and carbs. Maybe bigger valves.
