Can driver's seat be turned round?

Before I go and try this does does/has anyone know if the driver's seat can be removed and turned round 180 degrees or is it impossible due to steering wheel?
The reason I ask is to free some space up when we're camping!
If it's a goer it'll save me buying/installing a swivel base.

i guess what you mean is can you take it right forward off the runners and put it back the other way? i think as you say the steerin wheel will prevent it but hey,, worth trying. be interested to know if you manage it

That's exactly it Rozzo! Just need to know if it's possible or I might be giving myself an hour or two of struggling and swearing for nothing. I'll let you know how it goes!

i've wondered about this before too, there is a lug on the seat base that limits how far back the seat can go tho, which you would have to file or grind off to get the seat to slide on from the opposite direction.

So with the lug 'removed' could it be done with steering wheel in place or is the back-rest going to hit the wheel making it impossible to engage runners? :?:

not dead sure Brookie, to be honest mate, but the backrest , back of the seat must clear the streerin wheel on a pukka swivel base i suppose, so might be ok.
i've got a renault espace swivel base i want to experiment with fitting to my passenger seat, but it'll need a plate and vw runners welding to it, just toying with the idea, and too tight to fork out for a proper one! :D

think i misunderstood what you meant before brookie,
with the lug removed, the seat may slide on facing the other way, from the back end of the runners forward, not from the steering wheel end of the runners backward, in which case the back of the seat would def be in the way of the steering wheel, as you say.

Mine does, I turn the seat sideways push it forward on runner n it misses steering wheel no probs. then recline the seat again n lie back. But ive got a Holdworth conv, and there made like that.

The one in my Westy won't turn more than 90 degrees due to the steering wheel in front, and the cupboard behind it. To get to the battery underneath it I have to slide it all the way forward off the runners, then turn the seat base round so I can open the battery box. In a friends Westy though, the passenger seat is on the runners back to front, so I could open the battery cover without turning the seat round. Hope that helps.

I`d say not because its a tight fit (but possible)when doing the same thing with the passenger seat......
