Leisure Battery Not Charging

Hi,
Our leisure battery doesn't seem to be charging up from the split charge unit thing.
We have an Autohomes Karisma so it was all built in from new.
I've checked the fuse next to the leisure battery and that is OK.
Any other suggestions?
We know nothing of this mysterious electricity magic so don't know where to check next.
Also, it's a car battery, only a year old and holds charge fine when charged up with a battery charger.
Any advice, much appreciated.

I'm no expert, but I had a similar experience last year. The battery and split charge unit were new. It turned out that the earth strap on the main battery was loose.

Could be anything really. It`s a case of tracing the wiring back from the alternator (I presume your main batt is charging OK?) to the split charge relay and all other wiring involved, checking for breaks, knacked relays, blown fuses, bad/missing earths, knacked Zig unit, if you hav`nt got a multimeter and know how to use it you could struggle.
There is nothing harder (or more expensive if you are paying) than finding an electrical fault. Check all obvious, easy stuff first. Relay first for defo.

Ta for the advice.
Looks like I'll be following wires for a day then.
I'll check the earthing strap as well.
Just to be sure, should there be an earthing strap on both batteries?

Yes. Both batteries will have the -ve side connected to the chassis.

I had the same prob in my autohomes! Disconnect the inline fuse from the leisure battery open the zig and metter terminals 1&2 and 3&4 if there is no power there its the inline fuse from the main battery which is located inside the cooker cupboard behind the little wooden panel left on the floor behind the drivers seat! Our leisure was charging when on hook up! Now we have put another 110 leisure in the wardrobe all is great plus in the autohomes the leisure under the passenger is probably a car battery anyway
