re-mapping ECU

I'd be inrterested to hear thoughts and opinions on this from anyone who's attempted it or done it in the past...

Basically my Syncro is drinking diesel like it's going out of fashion at the moment and it seems to be the ECU that's the most likely culprit. I'm gonna go and get it stuck on a rolling road this weekend and get a diagnostics report run on it before jumping in and getting it re-mapped. The guys reckon if I decide to go for it that (for the 1.9tdi) they can usually get an extra 30bhp and the cost for that is £350.0...

Question is: is an extra 30bhp likely to give me noticably better fuel stats and am I getting good value for money?

Cheers,

Andrew

I have a good friend who does this remapping stuff and he did my Passat for me. You can have power, torque or MPG or a combination of all 3. I now have 160 BHP and regularly get 58 MPG out of my 2.0 TDI. You choose what you want

Since getting the 1.9TDI i have been educating myself ! (My first ever diesel)

Found this site dedicated to VWTDI engines which has a lot of useful info about tuning and performance and more besides

cheers for the advice and the link guys, very good resource - this is going to come in handy.

took it down to the Edinburgh Car tuning Clinic on Saturday and hooked it up to their diagnostics machine, was gonna stick it on the rolling road but unfortunatly the Syncro was too tall to get it in to their workshop...

basically i'm registering five faults, one of which is the engine speed sensor - the ECU is not picking up how fast I'm going so it's reverting to default settings, this is probably the main reason for it drinking alot of fuel. They can't start re-mapping untill this is sorted so the process is on hold 'till I get hold of either Canada or Germany...
