My brother in law's engine has finally left this world for the next. He's looking to replace the current 2l A/C for a Passat (or similar) 2l engine.

Have read the forum but ideally would like to speak to someone who has done it. Anyone from Cardiff/ South Wales area whose completed an exchange and is willing to meet up to discuss?

By the wey- my BIL is a mechanic so knows his way around. Just wants to discuss it with someone before undertaking it.

So your BIL is going from A/C to watercooled ? yes

Loads more work than just swapping the engine ,you'll have to source a rad and all the pipe work , wiring , cut the front of the van for the lower grill , oh and you'll need one of those

etc etc

the easier option is either re-build the 2.0 a/c or get someone to do it , or get another , I think JK do them

You would basically need a complete rotted out diesel van to source the conversion bits from plus the donor engine (or complete car). Only other thought that occurs is would a side mounted radiator at the rear work? But I doubt there is enough room or the airflow for effective cooling or VW would have made them that way in any case.
