My van has sat on the drive for the last 7 months, as i have not had time to use it, i went to start it and noticed the starter motor was knackered so i replaced it last week.

I charged the battery on tuesday this week for 24 hours to make sure it was not flat, the van started great all day, i have tried today to start the van today and found it to be flat, the battery light is very dimm,

could the battery be the problem, even though its only 1year old???

Sounds like it. If it was seriously discharged it could be irreversably knacked. You need a modern "sensing" charger to bring them back from the (nearly) dead.

Have you got access to another battery, and also an electrical multimeter? Check the alternator for charging when it`s running first, and then check for any major discharge when it`s stopped. If all is well, then it sounds like your battery is knacked.

If it started then you turn it of, then try to start it. could it be the Altanator (spelling) as well? clean wires, check plugs.

Car batteries are designed to have loads of power sucked out of them, then have loads of power chucked back into them. If a battries been sitting then it gets muck built up on the plates. you will need to use it like it was designed to regain its power.
