Please can anyone help me with a fault my van has developed? Basically the washer has stopped working after being slightly temperamental for a while. I removed the motor and tested it directly to the battery and it burst in to life. However when connected in its place this is not the case. So next I tested the supply cable with a test bulb (one of those probes with fuse wire in that lights up), and when the switch was activated it lit up but quite dimly compared with when I connected it direct to the battery for comparison. In addition when the motor is disconnected and the stalk on the steering wheel is activated the wipers perform their 3/4 sweeps, but when the motor is re-connected they don't. The rear washer motor works which although is a separate motor presumably this rules out the relay and the switch does it not? Wondered what to do next, anyone else had this issue, or got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the switch. Possibly just dirty contacts.

The switch is unable to supply enough curent to run the motor and activate the 3/4 sweep relay.

You coud try spraying contact cleaner (available from Maplin) into the switch, but you will probably end up stripping the switch down.

Thanks, will give it a go. Thinking about it you may be right, as my brother disconnected the switch to look for evidence of a bad connection and when he re-connected it he said that the wipers would go through their cycle where before they would not with the motor connected.
