Depends how bad the rest of it is. Does the elbow look like it will undo without any drama  Probably not, and if it`s bad, the rest is probably similar vintage. The studs holding the headers to the engine can snap when undoing them, which is usually an engine-out job to sort out unless you`re lucky. Try just the elbow first as it may save you a lot of time and money if it`s an east fix. :)

So I would budget for a new full system, and some grief if you`re doing it yourself, or a few quid if someone else is doing it for you. :(

did mine last month, hacksaw the 7 bolts, I cut through 1/2 way then they snapped off easily with a socket/spanner. It should come away then, mine did and it was a Total lump of rust.

then you can see the condition of the flanges of the 2 pipes connected to the engine, the 4 holes that the bolts go through can rust right through, saying that, you can still see before you start.

cost /justkampers
£35 elbow

£30 downpipe to silencer (thats what broke off from my elbow, could be where yours is blowing from)

£18 fitting kit (had to buy this to get the metal sealing ring that joins the cast elbow to the downpipe, other side is 2 gaskets) but coundn't find the ring sold separate. you'll need the ring as it will have rusted to the elbow/pipe etc

good luck
