STRANGE RUNNINGS

Had the van out for it's first good run round the south coast over easter. After many miles and some steep hills the van started to rev very high.

Basically driving along normally and I come up to some lights and slow down to a stop - the engine was reving up to max before slowly dropping down to idle. I found that if it started to do it I could slow it down on the gears/clutch so by bringing the clutch up with it in 3rd/2nd it forced the revs down.

While stuck in traffic in Brighton it was doing it too, so stop starting in 1st/2nd it was revving really high and taking a while to settle so it wasn't getting stuck at high revs - it just suddenly shot up.

My thought was that the accelerator cable was maybe sticking - although the peddle was travelling normally. Had a check at home and it all seems fine, doesn't look to be snagging anywhere.

Any ideas?????

My similar problem was cured by a new throttle cable.

It drove mostly fine, but when pulling away from junctions and 'flooring it' it would rev high during gear changes. It didn't stick if I gradually built up to foot down full in 4th.

Even if it doesn't cure the problem, it's well worth the investment in a new cable just to feel how smooth the throttle action is meant to be!
