im having a problem with my brake shoes pins. fitted new back pates and new slave cylinders and used the old shoes but when i try and fit the new brake pins they seem to short. they are the same length as the old ones so must be somthing to do with the new back plates (cant compare to old back plates as they have rotted away). can i use longer pins from another model vw (LT) or something any help mush appreciated.

you seem to be having the same trouble I had recently. I ordered complete rear brakes (except the drums) from Just Kampers including the fitting kits which include the shoe retaining pins. When I came to fit them I found that the pins were too short.

The response from JK was that there are two types of pins and only the short ones are included in the fitting kits. If you need the long ones, you have to order these seperately at £1 a time! (J10530).

They did not give a response when I raised the fact that all the parts were from them in a single order and that they should surely have provided the correct pins or, at the very least, told me I needed the longer ones. When the longer pins arrived they did not fit through the spring cups so I had to file the slots out to get them to go together.

Just another problem with after-market parts, I suppose, but not helpful or encouraging.

GSF do complete packs of all the sundry parts for a rear brake refit, think they are £10 (for both sides)... spings semeed to work for me, poss. even identical to VW rear repair kits.

Do you have a part number as the local branches swear blind they don't sell them, I get mine from elsewhere.

Will have a look on the packet - if I'm wrong and they got me genuine VW ones (which they sometimes do, or used to till head office butt in) -then apologies - will check today

I got a fitting kit for just over a fiver from my local auto factor worth just going local sometimes

Yup, its actually the proper VW one, with enough for both sides in it - sorry, GSF must have ordered it in for me.
