hi everyone
just wondering when you have an electrical problem on an older camper what do you normally check first?
i imagine it could be something simple like a blown fuse or loose connection but sometimes it is hard to track down the cause.
do you normally start with the fuses or get the multimeter out and check the wiring first?

Most electrical glitches that I’ve experienced have been either down to a bad earth or a blown fuse, typically in that order.
The only issue I can think of that was due to a broken contact was the horn ring in the middle of the steering wheel, but that was a component failure and hardly down to defective wiring. I have spotted a few potential issues which have led to renewal of things like connectors on the sensor wiring in the engine bay, but these have generally been preemptive and were caught before they became an issue.

I don't think you need to append all your posts with "on an older camper" on here

Good point about the earth connection. i guess a poor earth can cause some strange problems and be easy to overlook. checking that before chasing the wiring makes sense.
