Hi all, need help I think...

Quick Q?

What am I missing here (from the photo) to make these two parts work, and switch the water tank pump ON when flow is detected?

And where can I get/find the missing bit?

Best Phat

It needs to have the microswitch built in, so that the pump gets turned on when the tap is turned, like this example from Brickwerks (pictured below) - you seem to have a separate tap and microswitch.

Mybusparts in Germany list the OEM plastic taps on their website, which also have a microswitch built in, but they look to be out of stock at the moment.

Yup -Saw that on Brickwerks, thanks for the link too, I have a couple of spare built in ones thankfully -but just wondered how the switch fixed to the outlet to keep the original if I can?

Tap works fine -switch too, new/never used just how to fit it to a barbed outlet I'm wondering -can make fettle/cast most stuff just need an idea to go off, or find a used piece I can fix these two parts to.

I'm assuming the switch is a pressure off set up, as you turn the tap to open the plunger inside the feed pipe releases the switch tab and voila, circuit is made live.

So missing a bit of plunger extension and pipe that the switch inserts into...can make that, but rather not have to if they are available. Thanks for the tips though -helpful.

After a bit of looking...Schell the original brand use 'Reich' for some switches/KAMA too -but these are old style systems. Whale do inline switches, just attach yous hoses and would work - but too but expensive -there's lots out there ranging in price for low fluid pressure 12v switched connectors.

Faf though as you'd need to prime them I think...

Thinking easier to use the Comet set up we've been using for past 20 years than reinstate something with more moving parts and  connections to leak from... :(

The original westy tap is huge overkill.
A tap from a caravan shop with inbuilt switch does the job. Replaced mine about 15 years ago and been fine.

But I know we like to keep things original

The Brickwerks tap is actually an upgrade on the Westfalia original:

Exactly. Mine is the same but in beige.
Nice, compact and the more you turn the tap the more water comes out faster.

I've got both a brown/Beige and Grey one of those -ahhh choices!
Always found them simple and trouble free... just while I had an original thought it might be worth reinstating it, retro originality and all that -but more trouble than its worth it seems, and like you say, it's the size of the one in my kitchen at home -Overkill.

I'll slam the Westy tap and new switch on Ebay as spares . . .

Thx folx that helped lots!  :D :D :D

Did the westys originally have an inline pressure operated pump on the floor in the bottom of the cupboard under the sink? It would make sense of the raised insert bit both of mine have at the bottom and the blocked off pipe outlet at the bottom of my water tanks. And it would make sense of an original westy tap which is just a tap.
I bought a pressure operated pump a while back and was planning to fit it according to my theory but it's still quite far down my priority list :)

It’s nothing as complicated as a pressure sensitive pump in our Club Joker. We still have the OEM setup which was a basic switched submersible pump inside the tank (G2 on the Westy circuit diagram) that’s actuated by a switch in the tap (J2).

I believe some of the early Jokers (maybe pre-1982?) had an inline pump, which was located below the boxing out at the bottom of the main kitchen cupboard, rather than a submersible pump in the tank. However, my understanding is that this was still actuated by a switch at the tap.

yup, the interior on my daily is from a 1980 van. That has an extra switch in the insert at the bottom of the kitchen cupboard.
In the 1980 and 81 manuals they both refer to the water pump there, but the 85 manual clearly references an in tank pump.
I was half right, the pump did live there but it was still operated by a switch and wasn't pressure operated.

Image from the 1980 manual

and text from the 81 manual:
10.3 12 Volt water pump The water pump is located r. h. on the bottom of the kitchen closet and operates through the 12 V-booster battery. It starts running when turning the faucet clamp to the left. However, should the tank be empty, the pump will not start.

And in the 1985 joker manual it says that in the US model the pump is in the tank and in the Canadian model it is on the floor under the sink again ??
I will check my 1985 westy and see if it actually does have the plugged lower outlet on the water tank. It definitely has the removable shelfy bit in the cupboard under the sink.
