accelerator cable adjustment

I have recently removed the carb for a clean up and this involved me removing the 2 bolts on the accelerator bracket.
Everything was re-installed and the van was given a long run yesterday. Unfortunately i now find that it is not as responsive on the throttle and regularly had my foot firmly against the floor.
Haynes is not very specific and there are varied online instructions which all seem confusing.
I cannot see any simple way of adjusting it in the engine bay.
I did read on here that you can gain access at the front via the offside indicator but don't want to open a can of worms if there is a simpler procedure to follow.
I am presuming that a slack cable would give these symptoms and it needs tightening ?

Seems an unusual coincidence that the prob with the throttle has only occurred since removing/replacing the carburettor? The speedo cable terminates at the wheel ( think nearside front , but not sure ) and fitting my new one went well - not a real expert but they normally fit ok I believe ( stand corrected if I am wrong).Could it be a carb issue?

Yep, there's only a nipple on the throttle end of the cable - replaced Vinnie's last year.  The adjustment is on the gas pedal itself, behind the o/s indicator.  Does seem an odd coincidence that its happened after removal.  Is it possible the cable outer on the throttle bracket has slipped rearwards?  That'd make the inner cable slacker without touching anything else.
