I got a paper gasket for the reverse light housing from BW.
But it protrudes alot. Closer inspection of the housing cover shows it should be a rubber o ring seal. VW pn 094 301 278 A. Any idea on where to get this part or will the paper seal hold up.

Should have both the rubber o ring and the paper gasket
pre 1987 VW didn't fit the paper gasket, but after they saw the state of gearbox case corrosion because of the permanent live +12v feed to the switch leaking across the interface to the main case at permanent -12v potential in the presence of water (and road salt) they added the oversize paper gasket which very much reduced the case corrosion and meant the old cases were more likely to be re-useable in an exchange situation
I can supply the o ring, the stamp and envelope will cost more than the o ring mind

Hello Aidan.
Most kind of you. Probably explains why mine had some kind of sealant on it instead. There was a weep hence why the change and questions.
May I PM you ?
I have the seen the O rings in Germany for very little. Baxter has them as part of gasket kit but not individually. I seen the rings on some Internet sites for ridiculous money.
It the way of the world. The stamp and envelope cost more than the item.... I was talking to my day yesterday how stamps were once 17p second class and when they were not franked we would
peel them and re use them.
