Fitting late stainless steel exhaust to early 1.9 WBX van

I have an 1984 1.9 WBX van that requires a new exhaust system. I have an off the shelf exhaust kit that is designed for an 1985 and up
I purchased the fitting kit from JK to be able to mount the late stainless steel exhaust to an early model.
The web site said it bolts onto the engine mounts and the tin ware requires modification, I was wondering if anyone out there has done this and could post some images as I cannot exactly see how it’s going to work. Image

I assume you have the full kit and not just these two pieces? There should be two angled brackets with four holes, two hanging brackets and two straps

The angled brackets with four holes replicate the mounting points on the Rear Pipe Support Point B found on later vans. So you need to mount them with this picture in mind.

In my opinion it is probably cheaper and more secure (but not necessarily easier) to source a late hanger instead. Plus it will give you an opportunity to replace the four engine rubber mounts. In fact l probably have one you can take off my hands for the price of postage. However it will undoubtedly be covered in grime and oil!

Thanks for the image, this has helped hugely.
If I was the exchange the engine support for a later one, will this be a straight swap or will I need to do any modifications as I know there are some minor differences between the early and late models across various aspects or the van.
I may be interested in late support if it’s a straight swap.

Pretty certain it's a straight swap. I don't recall seeing any difference in the tinware for pre 1985 and post 1986 vans either.
Also the engine rubber mounts are the same for all years, including Aircooled.
It is not that complicated. But does require removal of water pump pulley and belt. Relaxing gearbox nose bush bolt. Then releasing engine moustache and dropping it about an inch to access all bolts. So engine needs supporting with a good sized trolley jack
It is definately a 'get under' job.
